alessio-fasanoDr. Fasano

Dr. Fasano completed his medical training at the University of Naples in Italy, and in 1993 he founded the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. Ten years later, Dr. Fasano published the groundbreaking study in the Annals of Medicine that established the prevalence rate of celiac disease at one in 133 people in the U.S.

In 1996 Dr. Fasano founded the Center for Celiac Research, the first celiac center in the United States, which is currently located at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Clinical and research work at the Center has helped to identify the new disorder of non-celiac gluten sensitivity as a condition on the spectrum of gluten-related disorders.

Dr. Fasano leads a team of researchers across nine countries and enjoys research partnerships with institutions around the world. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and he has received numerous awards for his translational science and other achievements. Dr. Fasano has been named one of America’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly for five consecutive years (2007-2011) and was a 2005 finalist for the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award.

In the year 2000 Dr. Fasano’s team discovered “zonulin,” the molecule which regulates intestinal permeability, also known as “leaky gut”, and their totally ground-breaking research has linked an overproduction of zonulin to the development of a series of autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes, celiac disease and multiple sclerosis.

Please note that Dr. Fasano’s participation in the Gluten Free Summit is solely to provide factual information to the general public on gluten-related disorders. Dr. Fasano, the Center for Celiac Research, MassGeneral Hospital for Children and Massachusetts General Hospital do not endorse any products or sponsors represented at the Gluten-Free Summit.

Dr. Campbell-McBride graduated with honours as a medical doctor in 1984 from Bashkir Medical University in Russia. In the following years she gained a Postgraduate Degree in Neurology.

After practising for five years as a neurologist and three years as a neurosurgeon she started a family and moved to the UK. It was during this time that Dr. Campbell-McBride developed her theories on the relationship between neurological disorders and nutrition, and completed a second Postgraduate Degree in Human Nutrition at Sheffield University, UK.

Dr. Campbell-McBride returned to practice in 2000 and runs the Cambridge Nutrition Clinic. She has specialised in using nutritional approach as a treatment, and has become recognised as one of the world’s leading experts in treating children and adults with learning disabilities and other mental disorders, as well as children and adults with digestive and immune disorders.

In 2004 she published her book Gut And Psychology Syndrome. Natural Treatment Of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Depression And Schizophrenia in which she explores the connection between the patient’s physical state and brain function. The book gives full details of the GAPS Nutritional Protocol, highly successful in treating patients with learning disabilities and other mental problems.

In her clinic Dr Campbell-McBride works with many patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, stroke and other complications of atherosclerosis. She has become acutely aware of the existing confusion about nutrition and these conditions, which spurred an intensive study into this subject. The result of this study is her book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth! What really is Heart Disease and What Can We Do to Prevent and Even Reverse it, published in December 2007.

Dr Campbell-McBride is a keynote speaker at many professional conferences and seminars around the world. She frequently gives talks to health practitioners, patient groups and associations. Dr.-William-DavisDr. William Davis

Dr. William Davis M.D. is a cardiologist and one of America’s leading authorities on using CT heart scans to powerfully impact on heart disease risk. Dr. Davis is the Medical Director of Milwaukee Heart Scan, founder of the Track Your Plaque international online program for heart health, and a vocal advocate of early heart disease detection and prevention. He is a graduate of St. Louis University School of Medicine and obtained his training in medicine and cardiology at the Ohio State University Hospitals and Case-Western Reserve/ MetroHealth Medical Centers.

In an effort to reduce blood sugar, and based on the fact that wheat products increase blood sugar more than nearly any other food, Dr. Davis asked his patients to eliminate wheat, including whole grain products, from their diets. The results his patients experienced went beyond anyone’s expectations:  incredible weight loss; relief from acid reflux and the gas, cramping, and diarrhea of irritable bowel syndrome; increased energy, more stable moods, and deeper sleep; relief from arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis; dramatically improved cholesterol values; reduced blood pressure and inflammatory measures, and more.

Based on his clinical experience, Dr. Davis has come to view wheat consumption as a widespread societal problem responsible for an incredible amount of illness, obesity, and suffering, and he now advocates the removal of all foods made from wheat from the diet. He articulates this approach in his book, Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight and Find Your Path Back to Health, which reached number one in the New York Times Bestseller list, as well as through his Track Your Plaque program (www.trackyourplaque.com).

Dr. Davis has been quoted and interviewed nationwide, including in the Ladies’ Home Journal, CBS News, and NPR. He is a frequent expert contributor to Life Extension Magazine. He is also co-author, along with Chris Kliesmet, of the upcoming book, Heart Scam: The Multi-Billion Dollar Medical Rip-Off that is Exploiting America, Hiding Cures, and Bankrupting Healthcare.
